In early 2020, MUTA - International Festival of Audiovisual Appropriation and Cine Íntimo rescued and digitised a Peruvian archive of orphaned 8mm and Super 8 home movies. With the aim of restoring these lost memories, we sent the images around the world. This omnibus film is the result of the intervention of this material, by 14 experimental filmmakers. Now moved on from the cult, Aurora is forced to confront her past and pursue the ultimate truth about The Cosmic Dawn.

The first sequence of the Hearst Castle was rotoscoped from Steven Lisberger's film and animated in Cosmic Cartoon. Lisberger did much of the matte painting, figure rotoscoping and airbrush painting, and Eric Ladd did the Earth rotation animation.

Outlandish and captivating, Cosmic Generator is a roughly twenty-six-minute video shot partly in Mexicali, along the Mexico-US border. As in many of Rottenberg’s videos, scenes filmed on location are interspersed with those shot on sets of her own design. In the opening, the camera leads the viewer through tunnels ostensibly connecting the various funky workshops and restaurants shown later. The tunnel imagery immediately suggests the futility of the impending border wall with Mexico, which appears under construction in several above-ground shots in the work.
